Team:
We won! Thanks to a fabulous team effort on Tuesday, we had a great
election night, albeit a late one! My family and I can't thank everyone enough
for all the help and support for our campaign that made this possible. Margi
Vanderhye did call on Tuesday night and graciously offered her
congratulations.
We couldn't have secured this victory without the help,
support, and guidance of so many fabulous people in our community and the
wonderful campaign team we had. I have heard from so many of you about how great
it was to work with our team and be part of this effort. I want to thank my
entire campaign team for doing such an excellent job at running the campaign for
the past 8 months.
The support and guidance of our Congresssman Frank
Wolf and our former Delegate Vince Callahan was also invaluable.
We had
over 1000 donors to the campaign and had almost a dozen fundraising events
throughout the district. I am so appreciative to the hosts and supporters of
these many events who made it possible to have a strong campaign to the finish.
We also had over 150 volunteers and lots of yard signs in yards that enabled the
enthusiasm to grow throughout the year. I also want to thank the Greater McLean
Republican Women's Club for working tirelessly for us. We also had the
excitement of young people who interned and really gave our campaign a huge
boost by knocking on doors and making phone calls day in and day out. We truly
had a broad based coalition that secured our win.
Finally, I would like
to thank my family who worked with many of you throughout this effort. My Mom
and Dad, Sally and John Burns, thoroughly enjoyed getting to work with so many
of you. My parents were once Democrats from Massachusetts before they become
active Republicans in Virginia! My husband, Chip Comstock, knocked on almost as
many doors as I did and could not have been more supportive. My children, Danny,
Peter, and Caity, all gave me the inspiration to keep on going, particularly
Caity driving me around and knocking on doors with me all summer in the worst of
the heat! Also, thanks to our great family friends, Karl and Doris Pierson, who
served as Deputy anything and everything throughout the campaign! It was
definitely a family effort for us and I appreciate the support you gave to our
entire family.
As we go forward, we have a lot of work to do over the
next two years in the General Assembly. I look forward to continuing to work
with all of you as we tackle the challenges that face us in our area on jobs,
transportation, and education. I hope I can continue to call upon your
expertise, guidance, and support.
Regards,
Barbara Comstock
