Richmond, VA- Today, Delegate Barbara Comstock (R-34) issued the following statement regarding the release of the House Appropriations Subcommittee's report on House Bill 29 and 30, the budget bill:
"I'm pleased that the budget amendment that I introduced to fund the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin was included in both the House and Senate proposed budgets this year. Budget Item 361 #3h was included in the budget pursuant to my amendment. This measure would provide $151,000 for FY 2014-2015 and FY 2015-2016 and continue our participation in this important Commission which serves our community and assures clean drinking water, water resources planning assistance, as well as environmental and land owner education programs.
"This amendment was included in the proposed House budget and I'm pleased this measure has the broad bipartisan support of my colleagues: Dels. Brink, Bulova, Filler-Corn, Futrell, Herring, Hope, Hugo, Keam, Kory, Krupicka, Lopez, Plum, Rust, Sickles, Simon, Surovell, Torian, Watts. I look forward to continuing to work with them to help secure funding for the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin and to help protect the Potomac River.
"The Potomac watershed is critical to the Commonwealth, with 36% of Virginia's population currently residing in the watershed. These waterways and their health are crucial to the Commonwealth, providing water for drinking, agriculture, industry, recreation, and a strong tourism economy that sustains local businesses."
