November 3, 2013

Dear Friends:

It is with great pleasure that I endorse Barbara Comstock for reelection to the Virginia House of Delegates.

I have known Barbara since her tenure as a staff member for Congressman Frank Wolf. During those years, she was known for her desire and willingness to help people, a trait she has kept while serving as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. In fact, few members of the General Assembly have such a strong record of constituent service.

Barbara's #1 priority from Day One has been to focus on jobs and the economy and make sure the jobs of the 21st century are coming to Virginia. She has been called a "go to" person by the tech community and has been the chief sponsor of legislation dealing with Data Centers, telework, and research and development for growing our economy.

Believing in the importance of good role models, she also established a Young Women's Leadership Program for junior high and high school girls in McLean, Great Falls, Vienna and Loudoun County. The purpose of the program is to provide girls with an opportunity to meet women leaders from various occupations to help them with their own personal and career development.

Barbara Comstock was also the Chief Patron of the "Lyme Disease Information Disclosure Act" which became law this year. The primary purpose of this law is to ensure that Virginians are adequately informed about the limitations of the existing tests used to detect Lyme Disease (and the problem of false negatives with these tests). This law ensures that patients can obtain information about testing problems and that they can, if necessary, seek additional testing, as well as appropriate treatment.

Barbara has also been a leader in fighting the growing problem of human trafficking, which is a growing problem in Northern Virginia. She has worked closely with Congressman Wolf to highlight this problem and passed major legislation to crack down on gang members who are now involved in human trafficking. Barbara has been part of the bipartisan coalition that now puts Virginia at the top of the list of states dealing with human trafficking.

She has also been active as an advocate for education. For instance, she worked with parents and school leaders to bring all day kindergarten to all Fairfax County schools. She was also a co-patron of a major Higher Education bill. This initiative will enable Virginia's colleges and universities to provide an additional 100,000 degrees over the next 15 years. This, in turn, will make Virginia one of the most highly educated states in the nation and provide our state with a workforce that will attract quality, high paying jobs. Barbara has also made it a priority to fight for more in-state spots for our college students providing funding for 1700 more spots.

The residents of the 34th District are fortunate to have such a hard working person as Barbara Comstock representing them. I believe that she is an excellent Delegate and I urge you to vote for her on Tuesday, November 5th.
