Loudoun County Chamber "State Of The Economy" Breakfast
The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce hosted a policymaker breakfast on Thursday, July 25th. We heard from keynote speakers, Loudoun County Supervisor Matt Letourneau (R-Dulles) and George Washington University School of Business Professor Christopher Leinberger on the "State Of The Economy."
.
I'm pleased to report that Loudoun County's economy is very strong with a 4.2% unemployment rate, AAA bond ratings and an increasing median income. 2.7 million square feet of commercial building permits were also issued this year, which is twice as much as last year. In FY2013, Loudoun County's recruitment efforts directly lead to over $440 million in investment and 1,600 new jobs in Loudoun. I enjoyed getting to meet with my colleagues at the General Assembly, Loudoun County representatives and business leaders at the breakfast.

Virginia Adopts: Campaign For 1,000 Day
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors declared July 30th "Campaign for 1,000 Day" in Fairfax County. I had the opportunity to attend a kick-off of Governor McDonnell's Campaign for 1,000 initiative- an effort to match 1,000 adoptive parents to 1,000 children currently in Virginia's foster care system, with over 1,000 of those kids ready for adoption and waiting for their forever home.
Every year kids in foster care "age out" of the system, and statistics show that for every 100 children who age out of the foster care system without being adopted 54 become homeless, and 94 do not graduate from college. These kids are also less likely to finish high school, less likely to have stable housing, more likely to commit crimes, and more likely to have a child out of wedlock.
If you think you are interested in adopting a child or becoming a foster parent click here for information on the Virginia Adopts Campaign and links to online resources like the Virginia Department of Social Services.

Join In For Regional Day To Serve: VA, WV, MD and D.C.
September 15- 29th, 2013
As involved citizens, people who make a difference and leaders in Fairfax and Loudoun County, I thought you would be interested in a regional service event that will occur from September 15-29th, 2013. The Governor's of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and the Mayor of the District of Columbia, have worked together to focus on an event for the second year in a row to not only feed the hungry but heal the planet with planting and beautification projects.
Last year, on September 29, 2012, they invited all citizens, faith groups, businesses and community organizations to join the cause. The results were overwhelming. With service (including Loudoun County), over 14,000 volunteers carried out 750 community service projects. They collected and donated more than 600,000 pounds of food and planted hundreds of trees. Click here to see more of the 2012 Regional Day to Serve.
It was so successful that the Governors and Mayor began making plans for 2013 rather quickly. Many months and many volunteers on the planning level have created tools to make 2013 even more successful. One such tool is the website: http://daytoserve.org/events. Here's what you can do.
1. Share it with your organization or organizations in your area
2. Post it on your social media outlets
3. Email to organizations you think could benefit from this regional event
4. Post your event and needs
If there is an event your organization is planning, go to http://daytoserve.org/events and add it to the "events" link. If there is an event you would like Delegate Comstock to attend, please email Jessica Goodman at [email protected] or call 703-772-7168.
