Delegate Comstock's HB
1933
"Lyme Disease Information
Disclosure Act" Signed by Governor
McLean, VA- Yesterday, the Governor signed House
Bill 1933, the "Lyme Disease Information Disclosure Act." HB 1933 requires
physicians to provide disclosure to people who are tested for Lyme Disease about
problems with testing reliability.
Delegate Barbara Comstock released the following statement:
"With
the Governor's signature,
HB1933
will now become law on July 1 and
is a great step in raising awareness about this terrible
disease and the high incidence of patients receiving false negative
tests for Lyme. 'The
Lyme
Disease Testing Information Disclosure Act'
will ensure that this critical information will get into the hands of all
patients being tested for Lyme
Disease.
I appreciate the Governor's leadership on this issue with his Lyme Disease Task
Force and support of this important legislation."
"Passage
of this legislation is important to so many of my constituents who have Lyme
Disease or have someone in their life who suffers from this disease. So often,
they go untreated and undiagnosed for months and even years. With the passage
of this bill, we can focus on getting information about testing problems
directly to patients so they can seek additional testing, if necessary, as well
as appropriate treatment."
"My
thanks to the National Capital Lyme Disease Association and their entire team
for all of their grassroots efforts in marshaling support for this legislation.
I appreciate the opportunity to work with them and tell the story of the many
people afflicted with this debilitating disease."
