Tysons Corner, Va. – As the House of Delegates and the State Senate today approved HB33 and SB242, Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Jim Corcoran made the following statement:
 
“The Fairfax Chamber and the Northern Virginia business community applaud the House of Delegates and State Senate for passing HB33 and SB242, which prohibit the use of mandatory Project Labor Agreements for state-funded projects in Virginia.
 
We commend the legislature for firmly upholding Virginia’s longstanding right-to-work tradition. The Northern Virginia business community adamantly opposes mandatory PLAs because they dissuade merit-based employers from participating in bidding processes, thereby hindering competition in the marketplace. Open competition, free from constraints like mandatory PLAs, ensures a level playing field for all contractors.
 
The Chamber particularly thanks Delegate Barbara Comstock and Senator Mark Obenshain for their leadership on this critical business issue.”
