September Campaign Update

Team:

With less than 36 days to go in this campaign, let me share with you the great campaign week we had.

Last Sunday, we kicked off the week with a fundraiser featuring Governor Romney at the Great Falls home of Ted Olson and his wife, Lady Booth Olson. Over 100 people attended on a gorgeous, sunny Sunday afternoon at Ted's beautiful home. Barbara continues to remain competitive in fundraising and once again this month outraised her opponent, who is one of the most vulnerable freshmen who won this seat by only 500 votes two years ago.

Recently, The Washington Post featured a story about the 34th District campaign as one of the most competitive in Northern Virginia. Just two days after the Post story, on Tuesday, our opponent launched a negative TV attack ad, and sent negative attacks in the mail. Our opponent hadn't done one positive TV ad about her own record or results before launching this attack. This tells you two things: our opponent has not produced results on our priority issues and she's trying to change the subject with negative attacks because she's on the ropes.

On Thursday, we had a great debate with the Great Falls Citizens Association at the Great Falls Grange where the audience was overwhelmingly in support of Barbara by a more than 2-1 margin. Barbara discussed her positive agenda for jobs, transportation, and education. We are all very proud of Barbara's positive campaign and after this great debate we would hope our opponent would reconsider the negative and false attacks she has launched. However, given our opponent's past history of attacking former Delegate Vince Callahan as “ineffectual” and Congressman Wolf as “out of touch” we have to expect we will get more of the same.

On Saturday our great grassroots team knocked on doors throughout the district (even in the rain!). Our grassroots team is enthusiastic, walking neighborhoods, phoning voters, planting yard signs, and knocking on thousands of doors.

These efforts demonstrate our strong and positive campaign. While you worry about jobs, education, and traffic, our opponent wants to talk about anything but her lack of a record on these key issues or her history of supporting tax increases and bigger government spending. But, the energy, ideas, and momentum are all on our side and we ask that you continue to fight with us for the 34th District and to send a message that we have a different, common sense way of doing things in Virginia.

We haven't done this alone. You all have been such a great team and we can't do this without your continued hard work to help us get our message out as we enter these final weeks of the campaign.

Thanks for all you're doing to help make this happen.

Regards,

Sean Harrison
Campaign Manager
