Dear Friend:
Â
As your 10th District Congressman and as your former 34th District Delegate, we are both writing to you about a friend of ours, Barbara Comstock, who we have both known for over 20 years and who is running for election this year in the 34th District House of Delegates â the seat held by Vince for 40 years.  Â
Â
Barbara has been visiting in your neighborhoods and knocking on thousands of doors all Spring and Summer throughout the 34th District to get your ideas on how she can improve our state government, so perhaps you have already talked with her. She has taken her campaign directly to the people because she understands that people come first -- you are the boss and you are who she will be accountable to.
Â
But in case you have not met her yet, we wanted to take a moment of your time to tell you why we are strongly supporting Barbara Comstock for Delegate in the 34th District of Virginia.Â
Â
We both have worked with Barbara and we can tell you she is one of the hardest working people we know. She has been an at-home Mom, a working Mom, a senior aide to Frank Wolf, a senior Justice Department official, a senior partner at a law firm, a small businesswoman, and a Board Member on various charities and an elected Board Member on the McLean Community Center. Her husband, Chip, is a career Fairfax County public school teacher, including teaching at Langley and McLean high schools, and he now is an assistant principal at Oakton High School. Her sister, Cynthia Coogan, is a guidance counselor at McLean High School. She has been hired by Democrats and Republicans alike to be their advocate and work to produce results for them.Â
Â
Barbara knows how to get things done for our community. She has a tremendous political, civil, and educational background and all the ingredients to make an outstanding Member of our Virginia House of Delegates.Â
Â
Barbara and her husband, Chip, have lived here in McLean for over 25 years and raised their three children, Dan (26), Peter (24), and Caity (21), here. They lived in Potomac Hills â Vinceâs neighborhood for over a dozen years and now continue to live in McLean.Â
Â
As a senior aide to Rep. Wolf, Barbara was immersed in Northern Virginia business, transportation, health care, federal employee and tax relief issues. Barbara led Rep. Wolfâs efforts in pushing for a $500 child tax credit (which was later increased to a $1000 child tax credit), marriage penalty relief, telework solutions for government and private sector employees, protecting the Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan and promoting common sense health care solutions, preventing the CIA from being moved piecemeal to West Virginia, and adjusting our HOV lanes from 3 to 2 passengers on I-66. Â
Â
Barbara can now take this experience working for Northern Virginia and working successfully as a leader in the public and private sector and put it to work in Richmond for us. Barbara has three priorities that she wants to focus on in Richmond:
·         Creating Jobs
·         Improving our transportation network in Northern Virginia
·         Providing Quality Education for our kids
To that end, she has proposed the following agenda to restore our prosperity here in Virginia:
·         Barbara will be an advocate for Virginiaâs job friendly environment that Vince Callahan was a leader in establishing â low tax, low regulation, low unionization and right to work policies;
·         Barbara will introduce legislation to give small businesses a 10% tax cut to help them retain and create new jobs and give our economy a real stimulus;
·         Barbara supports the creation of a bipartisan commission to address our transportation funding crisis and get a better return on Northern Virginia transportation dollars;
·         Barbara supports environmentally safe offshore drilling and dedicating the royalties to providing a new stream of transportation funding;
·         Barbara supports increasing the number of in-state student spots at Virginia colleges and universities;
·         Barbara comes from a family of educators and she will insist on keeping more of our education dollars in the classroom and more money for teachers, books and computers; and
·         Barbara is committed to creating a âVirginia Scholars Programâ for our top 100 math and science students which will fully fund their undergraduate and graduate studies;
·         Finally, Barbara will stand up for our seniors and fight to provide health care that does not ration, limit access to treatment, or put roadblocks between you and your doctor. Barbara will also work for property tax relief to make sure our seniors on fix incomes can afford to remain in our communities.Â
In these challenging times, we need a leader to tackle the unique challenges facing Northern Virginia. We need a leader who will understand our priorities and fight for us. Barbara has been a great friend to Northern Virginia and to us. We know she will be a strong leader on the economy, transportation and education.   Â
Â
We ask that you please join us in our support to elect Barbara Comstock as our next Delegate in the 34th District of Virginia on November 3. Â
Â
Sincerely,
Â
Â
Congressman Frank Wolf                           Former Delegate Vince Callahan
