Do We Really Need To Use State Resources To Regulate Yoga Instructors?

Yesterday’s Washington Post Yoga Article about the Virginia state certification plan for yoga instructors, is one more example of why we need more small businesspeople in our state delegation who will fight against nuisance regulations like this which are really just hidden taxes. It is really hard to believe that with all the challenges facing Virginia on jobs, transportation and education, that we have state employees harassing yoga instructors and small businesses like this.

The exorbitant fees ($2500), audits, annual charges and paperwork involved in this matter are not only a waste of time for yoga instructors, but a waste of our state government’s time. I would support repealing this misguided provision if I am elected this Fall and serving in the state legislature next year. In addition, I support a 10% tax CUT for small businesses – not tax increases in these tough economic times. To find more on my economic plan – Log on to www.comstockfordelegate.com/issues/jobs.aspx

When I spoke to Ms. Van Nuys, who was interviewed in the Post article, it was distressing to hear the huge legal costs her business has incurred because of this misguided state government effort and to hear that other similarly situated businesses have already given up and closed shop in light of this additional burden. I would suspe ct that like most of those who have found their way into a yoga class, I was able to do so without a state employee giving some seal of approval. We need leaders who will stand up to Richm# 5nd and put a stop to the unnecessary regulation of small businesses.
