Dear Friend,
As we prepare to observe Memorial Day this weekend, I opened my email and
received a very moving message from John Melia of "The Wounded Warrior
Project." Their mission "is to honor and empower our wounded
warriors" by raising awareness and enlisting the public's aid for the
needs of severely injured service men and women and helping severely injured
service members aid and assist each other.
John wrote: "Just think, after we attend this weekend's Memorial Day
parade - after we place flags on the graves of our families' veterans - what
more can we do for those who served and sacrificed? There is an answer: We can
never forget the fallen and serve those who lived and need our help today.
Remembering the depth of their sacrifice!"
John is a wounded veteran himself who was injured in 1992. When he saw fellow
veterans returning from combat in Afghanistan in 2002, he and his family
started delivering backpacks to wounded veterans and from that small beginning,
the program has now grown to include a wide array of services to wounded
veterans, their families and their caregivers. "The Wounded Warrior
Project" reminds us of how many true American heroes we have living and
serving among us.
As John said in his email - "If you see a veteran this Memorial Day
weekend - don't pass them by - please remember to thank them for their service
and sacrifice."
I would also encourage you to donate to this wonderful group and learn more
about them at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
Enjoy your holiday weekend. God Bless our service men and women and God Bless
America,
Barbara Comstock
