The Five House Candidates Who Raised $100,000

Trying to determine which House of Delegates races are shaping up to be the most competitive this fall? Start by checking out the candidates' most recent fundraising numbers.

Here are the five candidates who have raised more than $100,000 in the three-month period that ended March 31.

The list, compiled by the Virginia Public Access Project, gives us a hint of which races to watch in November.

5. Jeanette Rishell (D): $101,600
Rishell is running in Prince William County again against Del. Jackson Miller (R) who raised $11,000.

4. Greg Werkheiser (D): $110,000
Werkheiser is running in Fairfax County again against Del. David B. Albo (R) who raised $20,000.

3. Mark Keam (D): $132,000
Keam is running in Fairfax County against four others of both parties for the seat being vacated by Del. Stephen C. Shannon, who is running for attorney general. His opponents raised $30,000 to $65,000.

2. Barbara Comstock (R): $132,500
Comstock is running in Fairfax County against Del. Margaret G. Vanderhye (D) who raised $50,000.

1. Del. John O'Bannon (R): $141,000
O'Bannon is running for re-election in suburban Richmond against Democrat Thomas Shields, who raised $18,600.

Lawmakers were barred by state law from raising money during the 45-day legislative session.

Democrats have launched a massive effort to regain control of the House, which has been in Republican hands since 1999. They have won 11 seats since 2003 and need to win six more to win the majority.

All 100 House seats are up for election, but Democrats will be concentrating on the 15 Republicans in districts that President Obama carried in the fall, including several in increasingly left-leaning Northern Virginia.
